THE IMPORTANCE OF CORPUS IURIS CIVILIS
The meeting on the 22nd of November 2018 had the topic of emperor Justinian's rule and the historical relevance of Corpus Iuris Civilis. Asst. prof. Stoyan Ivanov introduced the political situation of the era and overviewed the differences between the Western and the Eastern Roman Empire (later known as the Byzantine Empire), the three main fundaments of the latter being Roman law, Greek culture and Christianity. The meeting continued with a presentation by fourth-year student Bilyana Nikolova, dedicated to the architecture and infrastructure during Justinian's rule. The final report of the evening was made by fourth-year student Nikolay Nedyalkov, who thoroughly analyzed the similarities and the differences of Roman law reception between the French and the German civil code.
